There's been a lot happening since our last update, but the biggest news is that we're launching Episode #1 of the Mo Fo on DriveThruComics and we're inviting you to join us in doing our part as we set the Mo Fo loose on the digital comic world!

The making of 'A momentary bout of questionably-inspired creativity'

Howdy all,
The silly season is almost upon us (that's Xmas for the non-understanding folks (that's Christmas for the even more non-understanding folks)), and Dave and I have been busy doing many non-Mo Fo related things. Yes. We do have lives outside of the Mo Fo. That said, we've been doing our bit to keep the Mo Fo buzz alive, and it seems that one such momentary bout of questionably-inspired creativity turned out to be a good idea. And what was this 'good idea'? It was this photo -

Whatcha doing? Oh, just doodling a plan for the Mo Fo...

And it was the winner of Whatcha Podcast's, Be An All Star Competition, with a swag of prizes provided by All Star Comics in Melbourne.

Your dose of all things Geek, podcasting every week.

The basics of the challenge is to send a picture of yourself to the podcast showing- 'Whatcha doing? Whatcha reading" Whatcha watching? etc". 

Supplying the swag!

It all started when I read Whatcha Podcast's call on Facebook for last-day, creative entries into the competition... and so, I got creative. The theme for my entry? Well, to paraphrase a couple of well known lab mice, "Whatcha doing tonight, Pat?" - "Same thing I do every night... plotting the Mo Fo's path to world domination!"
My template for the winning pic, was a time previously where I had used a wall in my former office to break down the characters and plot for a TV pilot I was working on.

Here's one I prepared earlier...

Now, if you're going to plan world domination, you need to think big. I mean, REALLY BIG! And, my first thought was to create a 'Plan' so big, I would need a Drive-In screen as the drawing board. Unfortunately, I didn't have a Drive-In screen handy, and my photoshop skills aren't that good  - so I had to settle for my office wall again.

I still needed a suitably 'global domination' looking plan... that I could create in a couple of hours. Can you say, "Hello Google Image Search?"
Ten minutes later, and I had a starting point...

I know, it's kinda small... but, you have to start somewhere...

Two hours later and the plan was ready...

Strangely enough... in having to fake the global domination plan, I had to come up with the plan for global domination. Mmm... I can't wait to ride the Bad Kitty Rollercoaster at the MoFoVerse Theme Park. 

And then, after a bit of overlaying, and cutting, and multiplying, and skewing perspective, and marker pen texture filtering - well, it's 2am, and you get this... again...

Whatcha Doin' at 2am while the city slumbers and the crickets chirp? Same thing I do every night... plotting the Mo Fo's path to world domination! Mwahhahahaha!!! *sidenote ...may have also consumed too much coffee.

Not a bad bit of Mo Fo promotion if I don't say so myself.

On a personal note, thanks guys for validating the idea :)...  'cause it's not so strange to question one's sanity when it's 1.45am and you find yourself standing on a foot stool that is precariously perched on two wheeled cabinets while staring at the ceiling as you wait for a camera timer to count down...
And, I'd also like to thank Troy and Mitch at All Star Comics in Melbourne for their generous and awesome prizes! I don't get over to Melbourne as often as I'd like, but Dave and I did make the journey for Armageddon Expo in 2011 to promote the Mo Fo, and we stopped by the shop and met Mitch and Troy.

A Part 15 update!

Howdy All,
Long time between posts... and we blame the susceptibility of the human race to getting sick, and the occasional bout of temporarily debilitating procrastinationitis... it's a real imaginary condition. Look it up. Oh, and yeah, we've kind of been madly busy getting this small Part 15 of the Mo Fo finished. So yeah... it's been a long month.
Good news is... Part 15 of the Mo Fo is almost done... and here's a sneak peek at the awesome work our guest starring artist, Glenn Lumsden has done for the Mo Fo... (color by Dave)

Well, word of the Mo Fo is starting to spread, and with awareness, comes reviews -- a potentially nerve-wracking experience for a creator. No-one's ever really read a comic quite like the Mo Fo, and Dave and I are kind of making the rules up as we go as creators, so pretty much any and all feedback, positive and negative, is exactly what we're looking for at this point. It all goes into the melting pot of ideas as we shape this grand adventure moving forwards. Australian comics legend, Glenn Lumsden, joins trailblazing Digital Comic, The Legend of Spacelord Mo Fo

 

Ironclad Imagineers is thrilled to announce the return to the comics world of Australian comics legend, Artist - Glenn Lumsden. Glenn's work on Marvel's The Phantom, DC's Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight and Cyclone Comics', The Southern Squadron and Dark Nebula paved the way for a generation of aspiring Aussie comic artists to come. We've lured him back with our game-changing digital comic series, The Legend of Spacelord Mo Fo. Glenn will be making a Special Guest Artist appearance in the upcoming Episode 1: Part 14, as we blast our way towards the explosive Episode 1 finale.

 

A word from Glenn - “I can't wait to help out the guys on Spacelord Mo Fo. When Dave first showed me what they were doing, I fell in love with the new medium. Comics and computer combining beautifully to create a whole new story telling experience. The visuals are fabbo, it's exhausting to think Dave's been drawing this solo. About The Legend of Spacelord Mo Fo

It's a post-apocalyptic, space-western, dramedy, with anime influences and a shot of that dark and sexy HBO stuff, so yeah, it's for a more mature audience... well, not for 'kids' anyway, not sure about the 'mature' part. We follow the misadventures of Bran Mak Foo and Honey Pott, a just-married couple scrounging a living in their dilapidated deep-space freighter, the Qupid, on the Edge of Endspace; a vast region of space where no semblance of civilization has reemerged after a galactic apocalypse... or three. The Edge is a place where heroes are few, villains are plentiful, and the rest are just trying to survive...

 

...oh, and as if life weren't tough enough already for our heroes, Bran just so happens to be the most wanted man alive - Spacelord Mutha... well, we'll say Mo Fo because we're in polite company. The Mo Fo's said to be a one man army who walked into a bar and let loose a hell that destroyed a city. Of course, the truth behind that tale is something else, but that's a truth for another telling. At its heart The Legend of Spacelord Mo Fo is a rock-em, sock 'em tale of love and guns, with Bran and Honey fighting the good fight against the galaxy, and sometimes each other, but always finding a way through... together... mostly... we hope...

 

How the digital comic works

You may have seen or heard of a 'little' game-changing comic that debuted in March 2012, Marvel's Infinite by Mark Waid and Stuart Immonen?... Well, the Mo Fo's like that. The Legend of Spacelord Mo Fo is a serialized, full-color, digital comic, written and illustrated specifically for the digital storytelling medium, and presented panel by panel in a cinematic widescreen format we call, Cinegraphic. Episode Parts are released weekly, and are available FREE, Online, for Download, and by Subscription, with completed Episodes to be released for sale as Ebooks and Apps, in Full HD, with a host of cool behind the scenes bonuses included.
